Share the beautiful African sunset experience with hippos and crocodiles while enjoying drinks and snacks served by the boat crew.
Day 2-3. Bulawayo, Matopos National Park
Crossing Matabeleland we reach the attractive colonial style city of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city with wide tree lined avenues. The afternoon will be free to explore this fascinating town at your leisure. The following day, knowledgeable local guides will take you to Matopos National Park. A place of tranquil scenic beauty, featuring the weird wind sculptured formation of the Matobo Hills, some of which display Bushman paintings believed to be between 1,000 and 4,000 years old. Whilst in the Game Park you will disembark your vehicle to view of some of the animals on foot, including the White Rhinos, an experience not to be missed.
Day 4. Great Zimbabwe National Monument
We continue our travel east to visit the Great Zimbabwe National Monument – one of the most important archaeological sites in Southern Africa and of huge symbolic importance to the nation, which took its name. The ruins date back to 1200 AD and were once home to an indigenous population of over 10,000 people who established trading links as far away as China and Persia.
Day 5. Antelope Park Private Game Reserve, Victoria Falls
Heading for the Zimbabwean Central Plateau we come to the town of Gweru and the Antelope Park Private Game Reserve. The reserve is home to various antelope species, zebra and giraffe. Here we can enjoy various activities, including game drives or walks, a sunset cruise on the river or a horse ride with the game.
Day 6-7. Hwange National Park
We drive north heading for the world famous Hwange National Park. Once the royal hunting grounds to the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi, it was set aside as a National Park in 1929 and is the largest in Zimbabwe. Our camp is located on the edge of the Park. After settling into your lodge or camp site, we visit the local Wild Dog Project. These endangered animals are in constant threat from disease and conflict for habitat. Our fascinating visit will allow us to find out about the efforts being made to protect them and the success stories so far. This evening we take a evening game drive in an adjacent game concession area, searching for a variety of nocturnal animals including the ever elusive Leopard. The following day is spent game driving in the Park, home to 400 bird species and 105 species of game including the ‘Big Five’.
Day 8. Victoria Falls
The following day we return to Victoria Falls, arriving in the early afternoon. The afternoon will be spent with a visit to the magnificent Victoria Falls. The Falls plummet 110 meters into the Batoka Gorge, sending spray up to 200 meters into the air. An awe inspiring sight!
